The Center, represented by the Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storm Warning, will hold a virtual seminar tomorrow (Thursday) entitled "Dust and Sand Storms in the Middle East: The Latest Scientific Research and Proposed Solutions", on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Dust and Sand Storms, which falls on Friday, July 12 of each year.

The symposium aims to shed light on the aspects of combating dust and sand storms, especially in the Arabian Gulf region, and to introduce the work of the Regional Center, its activities and programs, while providing scientific and educational programs and activities with the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of combating these storms and highlighting the negative effects of this phenomenon on health, economic sectors and other social impacts.

The symposium reviews the Kingdom's efforts in confronting dust and sand storms and reducing their negative effects, and the role of the Saudi Green Initiative in this by planting 10 billion trees throughout the Kingdom, and the impact of the deployment of nature reserves that contributed to preventing overgrazing and logging, in addition to the contribution of successive rainy seasons to the spread of vegetation cover.

Scientists from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Turkey and Iran, as well as officials and experts from the World Meteorological Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the World (FAO) will participate in the symposium to discuss the importance of combating dust storms and confronting their negative effects on various sectors.
