The Executive Director of the Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storm Warning, Jumaan bin Saad Al-Qahtani, confirmed that the Kingdom is witnessing a noticeable gradual decline in the rates of dust storms during the recent period, referring to the Kingdom's efforts in paying attention to environmental issues through the programs of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aim to reduce dust and sand storms and reduce their effects in order to enhance environmental sustainability and achieve a sustainable future for current and future generations, pointing out that the Center is continuously working in coordination with countries region to reduce its effects.
This came at the opening of the virtual scientific symposium held by the center today (Thursday) on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Sand and Dust Storms, which coincides with July 12 of each year, with the participation of local and international officials, scientists and experts, to review the latest scientific research and proposed solutions to combat dust storms and reduce their effects.
Al-Qahtani pointed out that the Kingdom has made many efforts in this regard, such as the launch of the Middle East Initiative in April 2021 in support of the Saudi Green Initiative with the aim of planting 50 billion trees, in addition to establishing regional centers concerned with warning of dust and sand storms, climate change and rainfall as part of the Middle East Green Initiative, in addition to its intensive work on combating sand and dust storms, with continued investments in research and technology to better understand sand storms, develop solutions to mitigate their impact, and cooperate with partners Regional and international to combat sand and dust storms.
