The CEO of the National Center of Meteorology, Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam, stressed that climate changes are noticeable, but it is necessary to address them by specialists who have the scientific ability to analyze maps and climate scenarios accurately. He pointed out that there are those who talk about these changes for political, social or commercial goals, which necessitated the need to organize meteorological work and limit it to specialists and concerned authorities, namely the National Center of Meteorology and its affiliated bodies.
This came during the National Center of Meteorology's celebration of the Arab Meteorological Day in Jeddah today (Sunday) under the slogan "Climate Impact and Adaptation Programs".
Dr. Ghulam explained that the National Center of Meteorology, through its advanced capabilities and advanced numerical climate models, is able to determine whether climate phenomena are real changes or recurring climate cycles, stressing the importance of the concerned authorities taking preventive measures to adapt to the expected changes, especially with the expectations of an increase in rainfall intensity in the coming years.
The CEO pointed out that the center seeks to implement programs and workshops for the concerned authorities to enable them to identify climate change and ways to prepare for it and confront its effects, God willing.
In the context of the celebration, the Center launched the Weather and Climate Terms Kit in Sign Language, as the first initiative of its kind in the Arab world, in cooperation with the Saudi Society for the Hearing Impairment, with the aim of enhancing joint efforts to serve people with hearing disabilities and provide them with appropriate awareness in the fields of weather and climate.
