The Permanent Committee of Meteorology of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's hosting of the Conference of the Parties to Combat Desertification and Land DegradationCOP16, which is scheduled to be held in the capital Riyadh next December, affirming its full support for this global event and its goals.
This came during the sixteenth meeting of the Standing Committee for Meteorology and Climate in the GCC countries, which was held today (Wednesday) in the Qatari capital, Doha, where the participants appreciated the Kingdom's efforts in developing meteorological work, including the Kingdom's hosting of the Gulf Center for Numerical Forecasting, which will provide its services to all GCC countries, in a step that reflects the Kingdom's keenness to enhance Gulf cooperation in the field of meteorology.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) praised the Kingdom's distinguished interaction, represented by the National Center of Meteorology, where the Kingdom recorded the highest percentage of benefit from the training programs provided by the organization within the framework of building the capacities of meteorologists at the GCC level.
During the meeting, a number of topics that enhance Gulf cooperation in the field of meteorology were discussed, including the Unified Meteorological Law, linking the network of weather radars between the Gulf countries, in addition to discussing the latest developments in the third generation of satellites, air quality standards, and the GCC Meteorological Award.
