The National Center of Meteorology's Hawi initiative witnessed a wide turnout from various regions of the Kingdom, and the number of applicants reached 244 applicants to benefit from the technical and training enablers provided by the center within the Amateur Empowerment Program in the fields of weather and climate.
The launch of the initiative came in response to the growing interest of community members in following up on weather and weather phenomena, as the center has worked since the beginning of the idea to design a qualitative initiative that organizes the efforts of amateurs and turns their passion into a scientific path enhanced with skills, by providing specialized training programs, workshops, and opportunities to interact with modern technical systems, under the supervision of the center's experts, with the aim of building a knowledge base that supports the meteorological system and expands the circle of community awareness.
In the context of the turnout for the initiative, the field of monitoring and weather forecasts came at the top of the applicants' interests with (132) participants, with a remarkable diversity in the rest of the tracks, while the Makkah region topped the list of the most joined areas with (79) amateurs, in an indicator that reflects the increasing awareness and knowledge among amateurs, and the role provided by the initiative in empowering them and developing their scientific and practical capabilities.
This turnout comes to confirm the success of the National Center of Meteorology in strengthening community partnership, and enabling those interested in weather to contribute to supporting the monitoring, forecasting and awareness system, in line with the center's efforts to build a more prepared and understanding society for weather phenomena and climate change.
