CEO of the Ministry of Meteorology: Saudi Vision 2030 has played a pivotal role in strengthening international efforts to protect the environment and combat desertification and drought

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Center of Meteorology, Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam, participated on Tuesday in the opening session of the Day of Resilience, as part of the activities of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16), held in the capital Riyadh, in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, leaders of the Ministry's environment system, in addition to a group of high-level speakers.

The session, which opened today in the presence of global experts and specialists, discussed ways to accelerate global efforts to confront desertification, ecosystem degradation, drought, and water scarcity.

In his speech during the session, Dr. Ghulam stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through Vision 2030 and the "Green Saudi Arabia" and "Green Middle East" initiatives, contributes to a pivotal role in enhancing international efforts to protect the environment and combat desertification and drought, pointing to the importance of adopting sustainable policies and employing modern technologies to develop innovative solutions that contribute to building a sustainable environmental future.

He pointed out that the "Day of Resilience" represents an important platform to accelerate efforts and raise international ambitions to face the challenges related to drought, water scarcity and land degradation, stressing the need to strengthen international cooperation to protect biodiversity and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The "Resilience Day" aims to raise awareness of global environmental challenges, highlight issues related to water scarcity, drought and land degradation, and raise the level of international coordination to support efforts to enhance environmental resilience and protect natural resources for current and future generations.
