The Ministry of Meteorology: A Significant Increase in Rainfall Rates in the Kingdom During the First Half of April 2026

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a statistical report to compare the amounts of rainfall in the Kingdom's regions during the period from 1 to 16 April 2026 with the climatic averages for the reference period, based on the data of the center's manned and automatic monitoring stations.

The report indicated that the average rainfall at the level of the Kingdom during this period reached 20.3 mm, compared to the normal average of 7.8 mm, recording an increase of 12.5 mm from the normal average.
He pointed out that the distribution of rainfall quantities at the level of manned stations showed that 11 stations recorded amounts higher than average, and 11 stations recorded amounts within the normal range (±5 mm), while 4 stations recorded quantities lower than average, which reflects a disparity in the distribution of rainfall among the Kingdom's regions.
The report indicated that the highest increase in the rate was recorded at the Abha station by (+139 mm), while the highest decrease was recorded at the Taif station by (-12.1 mm). Abha station also recorded the highest amount of rainfall of 163 mm, as the second highest amount of rainfall on this station in history, followed by Khamis Mushait station with an amount of 59.3 mm.
With regard to the automatic monitoring stations, the center explained that the Khamis Mushait station recorded the highest amount of rainfall of 72.8 mm, while the Al-Souda station in Abha recorded an amount of 40.6 mm, which indicates that there is a noticeable spatial variation in the amounts of rainfall within the same city.
The National Center of Meteorology stressed that these data contribute to supporting the climate monitoring system and enhancing the accuracy of analyses, enabling the relevant authorities to benefit from them in planning and taking the necessary measures, calling for the follow-up of its periodic reports through its official channels.
