The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) celebrated today (Monday) the Arab Meteorological Day, which falls on the fifteenth of September every year, under the slogan "Meteorology for Human Safety... and the sustainability of the place", in an occasion that emphasizes the close link between meteorological work, the safety of lives and property, and supporting the sustainability of natural resources.
The CEO of the National Center of Meteorology, Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam, explained that the choice of this logo embodies the vital role played by meteorological work in enhancing the safety of society through accurate monitoring, forecasting and issuing early warnings, which contributes to protecting lives and reducing the risks resulting from weather and climatic phenomena.
He pointed out that meteorology has become a key element in achieving sustainability by providing accurate climate data that supports the sectors of water, agriculture, energy, transport and the environment, and helps develop future plans aimed at adapting to climate change, in a way that enhances the sustainability of the place and ensures the optimal use of natural resources.
Dr. Ghulam stressed that the Kingdom pays great attention to the development of meteorological infrastructure and enhancing its technical and technical capabilities, pointing out that the National Center of Meteorology is working to develop an integrated system that includes monitoring stations, numerical systems and research programs, in addition to its regional role through centers accredited by the World Meteorological Organization hosted by the Kingdom, which support joint Arab and international action in facing weather and climate challenges.
He concluded by stressing that this day represents an opportunity to enhance community awareness of the importance of meteorology and its pivotal role in protecting humans and places, and to call on everyone to integrate efforts to achieve common goals in the field of environmental and climate sustainability
It is worth mentioning that the Kingdom is the owner of the "Arab Meteorological Day" initiative, as it submitted this proposal to the Arab Permanent Committee for Meteorology in 2019 to be adopted as a major meteorological day in the Arab world through the Arab Media and Meteorology Forum.
The date of the celebration of this day was chosen in commemoration of the day of the establishment of the Arab Standing Committee for Meteorology, corresponding to the fifteenth of September 1970, which is a decision issued by the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, with the aim of unifying efforts and objectives in this vital scientific field at the Arab level.
