The head of the Asia region of the "Meteorological Organization" launches a report

The President of the Second Region (Asia) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam, CEO of the National Center of Meteorology, launched the "State of Climate in Asia 2024" report, during a ceremony organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in the presence of the Secretary-General of the organization, a number of senior officials, experts, representatives of Member States and regional and international partners.

In his speech on this occasion, Dr. Ghulam stressed that the report represents a scientific reference that reflects the climate reality that the Asian continent is going through, and is based on accurate data and in-depth analyses, pointing out that the report is not limited to being a scientific document, but is a mirror of accelerated environmental changes that affect the lives and well-being of billions of residents of the continent and beyond.
He explained that the year 2024 witnessed a wave of extreme weather events, including heavy rains, severe heat waves, drought periods, tropical cyclones and floods, in addition to accurate indicators about sea level rise, retreating glaciers, changing snow cover, and ocean health.
He pointed out that the report is the result of extensive cooperation between the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in Asia, in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization and many international partners, appreciating the dedication of the data collection staff and the efforts made to serve humanity.
Dr. Ghulam pointed out that the report aims to strengthen early warning systems, increase investments in climate adaptation, and support regional cooperation, especially in the management of transboundary water and climate risks, stressing that the continent of Asia, despite the enormous climate challenges it faces, has great components and common capabilities to face these challenges through adaptation, innovation and collaborative work.
He expressed confidence that the scientific knowledge contained in the report will contribute to the formulation of effective policies and responses to climate change.
The State of Climate in Asia report is one of the most prominent regional reports issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and aims to support decision-makers with accurate climate data and information, and stimulate a scientific response to enhance countries' ability to adapt to climate change and achieve sustainable development.
