The Kingdom is witnessing a significant decline in dust and sand storms that reached 53% during this year

The Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storms announced a significant decrease in the rates of dust, sand and dust storms raised by 53% during the period from January to July of 2025, compared to historical averages for the same period.

The Executive Director of the Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storms, Mr. Jumaan Al-Qahtani, explained that the monitored data showed a varying decline in the number of cases registered during the first seven months of the year, as the percentage of decline reached 80% in January, 40% in February, and 75% in March, while the months of April and May recorded a decrease of 41% and 40%, respectively, while the percentage of decline in June reached 59%, and in July it reached 41%.

Al-Qahtani pointed out that this improvement is the result of the integrated national efforts exerted within the framework of environmental initiatives, foremost of which is the Saudi Green Initiative, in addition to cloud rainfall programs, projects to increase vegetation cover, legalize overgrazing, and the role of royal reserves in protecting ecosystems, in addition to positive climate shifts in the patterns of air masses, which in turn have been reflected in air quality and reducing sources of dust irritation.

The Center stressed that the results achieved represent a qualitative indicator of the effectiveness of national plans in confronting influential weather phenomena and enhancing the sustainability of the environment in accordance with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
