The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) announced the imposition of fines exceeding 150 thousand riyals on a number of individuals, after they were found to have published irregular meteorological information in violation of the requirements of the Meteorological Law.
The official spokesman of the center, Hussain Al-Qahtani, explained that these measures come within the framework of the application of the meteorological system, and based on Article (9) of the Executive Regulations, which prohibits practicing any activity or work related to meteorology without obtaining an official permit or license from the center.
The official spokesperson added that the financial penalties did not include all the violations that were monitored, as it was enough to take written pledges from some of them not to repeat the violation, stressing the center's keenness to raise the level of awareness and adhere to the provisions of the law, pointing out that the purpose of these measures is not to impose penalties per se, but to ensure the reliability of meteorological information and protect the safety of the community.
He pointed out that the center has carried out proactive introductory and awareness campaigns before the implementation of the system, with the aim of raising public awareness and introducing individuals and entities to the regulatory controls and requirements related to the meteorological system and its executive regulations.
