The Kingdom celebrates World Meteorological Day 2025

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the National Center of Meteorology, celebrates today (Sunday) World Meteorological Day, which falls on March 23 of each year, under the slogan "Together to Bridge the Gap in Early Warning Systems", in line with the World Meteorological Organization's call to unify international efforts to generalize early warning systems to all countries of the world by 2027.

The CEO of the National Center of Meteorology, Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam, stressed that the celebration of this day comes at a time when the world is witnessing a significant exacerbation of extreme weather phenomena, as a result of accelerated climate change, which calls for the development of monitoring, warning and preparedness capabilities, and raising the readiness of meteorological systems, stressing that the Kingdom, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Crown Prince, continues its commitment to developing the national infrastructure for monitoring and warning, and investing in the latest technologies to serve man and place.
Dr. Ghulam pointed out that the Kingdom is one of the first countries in the region to initiate the establishment of an integrated automated early warning system, as the National Center of Meteorology launched this system 14 years ago, to be the first system of its kind at the level of Arab countries, to contribute since its establishment to the issuance of thousands of early warnings, saving lives and reducing the damage caused by extreme weather events.
He explained that the center has taken advanced steps in enhancing the early warning system, through integration with the relevant authorities, raising the accuracy of weather forecasts, and spreading community awareness of weather and climate risks, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in protecting lives and property, and achieving sustainable development.
The message of this year's World Meteorological Day comes in light of the record rise in temperatures and ocean temperatures in the world, and the increasing frequency of storms, floods and fires in a number of regions of the world, which prompted the World Meteorological Organization to emphasize that early warning systems are no longer a luxury, but an urgent necessity and investment that avoids losses and saves lives.
Through its participation in this global event, the Kingdom affirms its full support for the "Early Warning for All" initiative, launched by the United Nations, with the aim of enabling everyone in the world to benefit from effective warning systems by 2027, based on its commitment to its regional and international role in confronting climate change, and supporting global efforts towards a safer and more sustainable future.
