Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Meteorology and the Geological Survey

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) in Jeddah today, which aims to enhance joint cooperation in a number of technical and scientific fields, in a way that contributes to unifying national efforts and exchanging experiences to serve sustainable development.

The MoU aims to define a framework for joint cooperation between the two parties in several areas, most notably: exchanging experiences and technical consultations, providing data, information, documents, maps and scientific reports, in addition to carrying out joint studies and researches and publishing their results in local and international scientific journals, and organizing scientific events such as conferences, seminars and workshops.

The areas of cooperation also include the use of the Authority's websites to install automated monitoring stations of the National Center of Meteorology, and the possibility of direct electronic linking of databases between the two entities, in addition to supporting studies related to climate change, especially those dealing with the impact of climate change on the earth's surface.

The MoU also includes discussing the possibility of implementing specialized projects and studies between the two parties or by assigning one party to the other, and cooperating in meteorological services that include climatic and historical data, weather forecasts, observation stations, and the meteorological services platform, in accordance with the legal frameworks in force in the Kingdom.

The signing of this MoU comes as part of the National Center of Meteorology's efforts to expand the scope of institutional partnerships, enhance integration between the relevant national authorities, in a way that contributes to the development of its work and programs, and support data-based decision-making in various vital sectors in the Kingdom.
