The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a climate report that reviews the average number of days of thunderstorms in the regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period from 1985 to 2025, based on the approved climatic records.
The report indicated that the city of Abha recorded the highest average number of days of thunderstorms at 59 days per year, followed by Taif with 45 days, then Khamis Mushait and Al-Baha with 44 days each, and Jazan with 33 days.
The report indicated that the number of days of thunderstorms reached 19 days in Qassim and Hail, and 17 days in Bisha, Makkah and Dammam, while Madinah recorded 15 days, Riyadh 14 days, and Najran 13 days.
The report also indicated that Rafha, Al-Ahsa, Arar, and Al-Jawf recorded 11 days, Jeddah 10 days, Wadi Al-Dawasir 9 days, Tabuk and Yanbu 8 days, Al-Qurayyat 7 days, Sharura 6 days, while Turaif came with 5 days, and Al-Wajh as the least affected areas with 4 days of thunderstorms during the year.
The center confirmed that the report comes within the work of long-term climate monitoring, and aims to present the climatic characteristics of the Kingdom's regions according to documented data.
